HVLP would like to recognize the legal department at Marathon Oil Corporation for their outstanding volunteer efforts. They made a pledge to take 6 pro bono cases and accepted 52 cases for the 2008-2009 bar year. Not only did Marathon accept HVLP cases but also took in difficult and often hard to place immigration cases from the non-profit Kids in Need of Defense (K.I.N.D.). These cases involve unoccupied minors in deportation proceedings. Marathon's outreach efforts go beyond just accepting HVLP and K.I.N.D. cases. In April, Marathon volunteered in the HBA's annual Will-A-Thon and assisted several low income senior citizens. They also consistently volunteer their time and services at HVLP's Saturday clinics and in September, Marathon will sponsor a Saturday Clinic. The tremendous support HVLP receives from Marathon Oil's legal staff is greatly appreciated.
